You Must Act Quickly to Protect Your Driver’s License
It is important to get me involved early after your arrest. You have 10 days from the time of your arrest to file a request for a hearing with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). If you fail to do this, the interim driver’s license you received from the arresting agency will allow you to drive for 30 days only. After 30 days, your license, along with your privilege to drive will be suspended.
Once your suspension goes into effect for a first DUI offense, you will have to serve a minimum of 30 days of your suspension and register for an alcohol counseling program to be eligible for a five month restricted driver’s license. A restricted license will allow you to drive to work and to your alcohol classes only.
